First Reconciliation Information
How we handle the religious education of your children, will be determined by NYS and Diocesan guidelines. As of now, the following norms for reconciliation may or may not be modified.
FIRST RECONCILIATION is a one hour ceremony (not a Mass) and takes place in January and/or February for 2nd grade students in the Religious Education program. We have one practice in the church for each group. At least one parent MUST attend along with the child. If you cannot attend your scheduled practice, please email Pat or Laura Leigh or call the religious education office at 516-822-9768.
Reconciliation Day: Please go directly to the church with your son or daughter and sit in the reserved pew that has your child's name. Please have your child sit in the aisle seat. The Reconciliation Certificate will be in the pew; we ask that you take it with you when you leave.
Attire: The way you dress your child is up to you. Suits, ties and dresses are NOT required. We suggest that your child wear neat, casual clothing, keeping in mind that it is a special occasion.
Prayer of Forgiveness: Your child will learn the Prayer of Forgiveness as part of being prepared for the sacrament of Reconciliation. We ask that you have your child practice saying this prayer at home:
My God, I am sorry for all my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do Penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, dear God, forgive me. Amen
